Welcome to Lofou
A Timeless Village in the Hills of Cyprus
Set among the hills of the Limassol district, around 25 kilometres northwest of Limassol, Lofou is a traditional Cypriot village where stone-built architecture, winding lanes and mountain landscapes come together in a remarkably peaceful setting.
At approximately 780 metres above sea level, the village rises among the surrounding hills, away from the pace of the coast and city below. Its elevated position, historic stone houses and quiet pedestrian streets give Lofou a character that feels distinctly its own.
The village takes its name from the Greek word “lofos”, meaning hill, a fitting name for a place so closely shaped by the landscape around it.
Lofou is a place best discovered slowly. Walk without a particular destination, follow a narrow stone lane around the next corner, stop to admire an old doorway or simply find somewhere quiet and enjoy the view.
Here, slowing down is part of the experience.
Stone, Wine & Tradition
Rooted in the Land
Lofou belongs to the historic wine-growing villages of the Limassol district, known locally as the ampelochoria. Vine cultivation was once deeply connected with everyday life here, and Lofou became known across Cyprus for the quality of its local wine.
That heritage can still be felt throughout the village.
Stone buildings reflect generations of local craftsmanship, while traditional food, wine and Cypriot hospitality remain an important part of experiencing Lofou today.
It is also a story closely connected with Oinoessa. Our own family history of winemaking in Lofou inspired the name Oinoessa and remains part of the identity of the guesthouses today.
Experience the Village
Slow Down & Explore
One of Lofou’s greatest pleasures is also one of its simplest: walking.
Its narrow stone-built lanes encourage you to leave the car behind and discover the village at your own pace. Morning light moves across old stone façades; courtyards and wooden doors appear between winding passages; and toward evening, the surrounding hills take on a completely different character.
The original story of Lofou describes the quality of the early-morning and late-afternoon light as something that has long attracted artists and photographers and identifies calmness as one of the village’s greatest assets.
Beyond the village streets, the surrounding countryside reveals another side of Lofou. A local walking trail leads towards the historic Elitji fountain, passing through an environment of shrubs, oak trees, herbs and seasonal watercourses.
Whether you spend an afternoon exploring or simply sit somewhere quiet with a coffee, Lofou asks very little of you.
And perhaps that is precisely its charm.

Your Stay in Lofou
Stay in the Heart of Lofou Village
The best way to experience Lofou is not simply to visit it.
Stay for a while.
Wake to quiet village streets before the day’s visitors arrive. Wander through the stone lanes in the soft morning light. Spend the afternoon discovering the surrounding countryside, enjoy local food and wine, and return as evening settles over the hills.
Located within the traditional heart of Lofou Village, Oinoessa offers a collection of lovingly restored stone guesthouses where the architecture and history of the village become part of your stay.
It is an opportunity to experience Lofou not simply as somewhere you have travelled to, but, even if only for a few days, as somewhere you belong.
